🏏 Last Man Stands – Key Rules

Last Man Stands follows standard T20 cricket rules with a twist. Below is a quick reference to the eight unique LMS rules. Use these cards to remind yourself and teammates of special situations during a game.

Rule 1: Last Man Stands

All eight wickets must fall to bowl a team out.
After the seventh wicket, the last batter bats alone and may only score 2, 4 or 6 runs.
No singles allowed; can only be run out at the striker’s end.
May score 12 runs on the final ball of the innings (see Rule 2).

Rule 2: Home Run

On the final legal ball of an innings, a six counts as 12 runs.
Applies to both innings; no limit if extra balls are bowled through wides/no balls.
A no ball followed by a home run yields 13 runs plus an extra ball.
Does not apply if the team batting second needs fewer than 6 to win.

Rule 3: The Steal

If the striker is caught, the non‑striker may attempt to steal two runs.
The runner must ground their bat behind the striker’s crease, then run to the bowler’s end and ground again before the fielding side breaks the stumps.
Maximum of two runs stolen; no overthrows or boundaries count.
Not permitted on the final ball of the innings.

Rule 4: Double Play

Two wickets can fall off one delivery – the striker is caught and the non‑striker can be run out.
The run out must occur at the bowler’s end.
The bowler is awarded the caught wicket; the run out is credited to the fielding side.

Rule 5: Eight Players

Teams consist of eight players. A minimum of five are required to start a match.

Rule 6: Retire at 50

A batter must retire upon reaching 50 runs.
Retired batters can return only if all wickets fall and must return in the order they retired.
Early retirement is only permitted with opposition captain’s consent or due to injury.

Rule 7: Five Balls per Over

Overs 1–19 consist of five legal balls.
Penalty balls (wides/no balls) may add a sixth ball.
In the final over there is no limit on the number of balls; each penalty ball adds one run.

Rule 8: Penalty Balls

Wides and no balls are penalty balls.
First penalty ball: 1 extra run and an extra ball. Second penalty ball: 3 runs and no extra ball (except in the final over).
A no ball grants a free hit on the next delivery.
Only one short‑pitched delivery above shoulder height is allowed per over; further short balls become no balls.
